Ello! I am expecting a precious little package(baby) early September and need to find a home to nest in asap! I am seeking either a communal home with modest expenses, or a nanny/childcare exchange for a space. I have much experience with children as an enrichment teacher for K-5, live-in nanny, and with many children for individual childcare. I wish for a garden to tend and be nourished by, a safe yard and environment for my baby and feline companion. Much more... if you have any potential connections for me- please holla!

New to Florida

Well, where do I begin. I am originally from Los Angeles and have recently moved to beauitufl Sarasota. I absolutely love it and am enjoying the process of getting to know where I am. I am curious as to where and when events are held. I am not quite the "burner" yet but I do have many friends involved in it all, and would like to be a part of it. i think it's a beautiful culture and the people are so wonderful. I am 22 and love music. It's what drives me and keeps me cool. I would love if people would share their ideas for fun and interesting places to go, music festivals are always a plus, and any type of artsy thing going on. I love to go out and meet people so anything that involves these things I am down for. I am open to new experiences and people, so please share with me. : )

Florida Folk Festival

It's more "green man" than burning man, and an amazing event in it's own sweet way. I think that this year will be the 55th (oldest folk festival in the US) and my 25th. For me, it's an annual community as I reconnect with friends who I have known for a long time, but almost exclusively on Memorial Day Weekend. I camp with friends from my intentional community. There are several Tallahassee clusters in the campground, folks from Gainesville, Tampa, Sarasota, Miami, Key West, Pensacola; pretty much everywhere in Florida that folk traditions survive.

The festival is Friday, Saturday and Sunday; May 23rd, 24th and 25th. It goes all day and into the evening. After the stages close down, music continues around a whole bunch of circles in the campground.

The Florida Folk Festival is held at the Stephen Foster State Folk Life Center. It's a state park in White Springs Florida, on the banks of the Suwanee River. You can find more information at http://www.floridastateparks.org/folkfest/. Camping in the park is for musicians and workers, but there are lots of nearby lodging/camping options.

Looking for opinions, suggestions or advice on selling at a Flea Market

It seems clubs in Florida don’t allow vendors to set up a booth and Raves and Burner type events are not as plentiful as they are in Los Angeles. I was thinking of selling, Burner type clothing, Rave / Club apparel and reconstructed fashions at a Flea Market.

I found a couple and wanted to see what some people think of them or if anyone can suggest one.

Songs about Florida

My favorite new song is "so long from the sunshine state" by Jerry Lawrence Bullard. It's all about inviting people to pack up and go home and leave Florida for them what love her. Bobby Hicks (the other one) is fighting cancer in Tampa. He wrote "I'm Florida, Need I say more?" which ought to be our state song. Way down upon the Suwanee river is a great song except for that one unfortunate phrase. We ought to honor it as the song emeritus like they did with "Carry me back to old Virginia" and put it on the shelf in a box made out of palmetto leaves.

Will McLean wrote about 1000 songs celebrating Florida. If you've never heard "Osceola's Last Words" or "Lord Hold Back the Waters" you're missing something wonderful.

So what's your favorite Florida song?

I will be traveling to Florida in January and staying in the southern area for about a month maybe more. I haven't decided yet as I may fall in love with FL... Don't worry not moving to FL :P Would love to hear about the things I shouldn’t miss and go to some local events with good vibes and fire entertainment. In addition, I have an old friend down there that I will be occasionally hanging out with and would love to introduce him to the Burner community. He is a great guy that has a little Burner fire inside of him but just doesn’t realize what ‘it’ is yet.

Take care

I am brand spankin' new to Florida. Well, except for that part where I spent the first 11 years of my life here, but trust me, it was a different world back then. Today I'm in a different city (burg, small town, hole-in-the-wall), and drowning in bingo games and scrapbooking sessions. I've seen Stephen King novels with less death waiting to happen.

Is there life out there?
For that matter, is there YOUTH out there?

Please, please, please tell me there is, before I lose my mind!!

(Also, hints on job-hunting wouldnt hurt, either.)

Bipartisan property tax reform plan announced in the Senate

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-0412taxreformplan,0,5369827.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

TALLAHASSEE -- Republican and Democratic Senate leaders on Thursday released a bipartisan property tax reform package that significantly differs from a contentious plan being pushed by the GOP in the House.

Leaders in both chambers and Gov. Charlie Crist have proclaimed property tax relief a top priority for this year's legislative session. They have been showered with complaints about rapidly rising tax bills due mainly to soaring real estate values and a system that favors some taxpayers over others.

The Senate proposal includes a tax rate rollback and a cap on future local government revenue increases - a provision that would let homeowners take existing tax breaks with them when they move and a special exemption for first-time home buyers.

Sen. Mike Haridopolos, chairman of the Senate Finance and Tax Committee, said the package is designed to provide relief for a broad range of taxpayers including business people, homeowners and landlords.

``It's comprehensive,'' Haridopolos, R-Indialantic, said. ``It's not angled toward one group or another.''

The House GOP plan offers it's biggest share of relief to homeowners. It would abolish at least some -- and possibly all -- property taxes on primary homes, known as homesteads.

To make up some of those lost revenues, it also would increase the statewide sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent and give local governments and their voters a chance to add another 1.5 percent sales tax in exchange for removing remaining homestead taxes.

The Senate package has no sales tax increase but would save taxpayers far less overall than the House plan, which has sharper tax rollbacks and caps.

Haridopolos estimated the Senate proposal would cut $11 billion over the first five years, an average of $2.2 billion a year. The House package, scheduled for a floor vote next week, would reduce taxes by at least $5.5 billion and up to $8.6 billion a year.

The House plan's big bite has drawn opposition from local government officials, who say it would force them to cut vital services including police and fire protection.

Full details of the Senate version will not be released until Friday. Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala, president of the Florida Association of Counties, said in a statement that it ``may still cause significant cuts to local governments and impact services to our citizens.''

She added, though, she hoped the cuts ``while painful, will not be lethal.''

Florida League of Cities lobbyist John W. Smith said he couldn't make an assessment of long-term affects without more information.

``One rollback for me creates 412 different scenarios,'' Smith said, one for each of Florida's cities.

Most Democrats, a minority in both chambers, have also opposed the House plan.

In the Senate, though, Democratic Leader Steve Geller and other top Democrats joined Republican leaders to present the reform package to the full chamber. Geller, of Cooper City, said he expected Gov. Charlie Crist to support it, too, because it includes variations of reforms the governor has proposed.

Crist said he had not yet been briefed on the Senate plan but was ``encouraged by what I've seen thus far.''

The governor has called for doubling the existing $25,000 homestead exemption to $50,000. The Senate plan would also double it but only for first-time buyers of homes valued below $100,000.

Over time, the extra exemption for new homeowners would be replaced by benefits from the existing Save Our Homes Amendment, which limits annual tax increases to no more than 3 percent.

Many homeowners have complained they feel trapped by Save Our Homes because they would lose its benefits if they moved. Crist has proposed letting them take the benefits with them. The Senate plan would also offer such ``portability'' but with limits: Homeowners could apply Save Our Homes benefits the first year after moving, but then their tax bills would increase by 10 percent annually until reaching a level equal to what they would have paid without the portability benefit. A that point, the normal 3 percent cap would kick in.

The annual increase is designed to reduce a gap between taxes paid by homesteaders and other property owners to avoid a legal challenge on the grounds that portability discriminates against out-of-state owners who don't get Save Our Homes benefits, Geller said.

Both chambers have included Crist's proposal for a $25,000 exemption on taxes that businesses pay on equipment, office furniture and other personal property.

The Senate has proposed a one-year rollback of local property tax rates with allowances for population and personal income growth, and then a one-year freeze. That would be followed by caps on future property tax revenue increases, again with allowances for population and personal income growth.

Other elements would require that affordable rental housing be taxed based on rental income instead of market value, and limit the use of ``highest and best use'' assessments that have resulted in sharp tax increases because nearby real estate has increased in value.

The House, meanwhile, rejected a Democratic proposal to quickly cut property taxes the state requires local school districts to levy by $545 million. It was defeated 65-44 in a largely partisan vote with four Republicans joining the Democrats.

Other Republicans said it was irresponsible because replacement dollars would come from the state's reserve, or ``rainy day,'' fund.

The FCC is holding its fourth official public hearing on media ownership issues in Tampa, Fla.:

Date: Monday, Apr. 30, 2007

Martin has promised to "hold public hearings in diverse locations around the country to fully involve the American people" in the FCC's review of media ownership rules. The Tampa event will be the fourth of "half a dozen" proposed hearings.
At the first official hearing, held in Los Angeles, more than 1,000 members of the public attended and overwhelming expressed their opposition to any rule changes that would let Big Media companies swallow up more local outlets. Similar sentiments were expressed in Nashville and Harrisburg, Pa..

..

The F.C.C. wants to change the rules to let multibillion dollar media companies like News Corp, Viacom, Disney and Time Warner get even bigger. They're preparing to let giant media corporations buy up more local TV channels, radio stations and newspapers across America.

http://www.stopbigmedia.com/=fcc
Learn about the FCC's rules
..

The largest media conglomerates rake in billions by owning TV stations, cable channels, newspapers, radio stations, publishing houses and more.
Check out our interactive ownership chart
http://www.stopbigmedia.com/chart.php
What's at Stake
http://www.stopbigmedia.com/=learn

The Federal Communications Commission is once again taking up the issue of media ownership and deciding how media ownership rules should be changed. As FCC Commissioner Michael Copps has warned: "They screwed it up once. Believe me, they're 100 percent capable of screwing it up again."

That's why it's crucial for the public to weigh in now. Here's what's at stake:

* Big Media stifle viewpoints: If a corporation like News Corp. can buy multiple media outlets in a single city or town, it gains immense influence over what information is available. Consolidated corporations strip local newsrooms of staff, while pushing aside competing points of view. That means less diversity of voices and a narrower range of debate.

* Big Media don't serve local communities: In exchange for their free and exclusive use of the public airwaves, broadcasters such as Sinclair are supposed to serve the public interest. Yet they frequently ignore important local issues, pander to sensationalism, provide biased coverage of elections, and stifle diverse viewpoints.

* Big Media ignore diversity: Corporate media conglomerates like Tribune Company are more concerned with profits than responsible programming. Coverage of issues important to people of color, the working class and rural citizens are squelched or ignored because these people aren't advertisers' target audiences.

Without ownership limits, giant national corporations can buy up local stations and newspapers, eliminate diverse, local and independent programming. If the FCC is serious about fostering localism and diversity, it must enact protections against consolidated corporate ownership.

For decades, the biggest media companies have had the ear of the FCC and Congress, while the public has been ignored. As the FCC rewrites is ownership rules and Congress debates legislation that will shape the entire media system for years to come, it's time our policymakers listened to the public, not just the corporate lobbyists.
Costs of Consolidation
In 2003, the Federal Communications Commission attempted to loosen media ownership rules that would have unleashed a massive wave of corporate consolidation of radio, television and newspapers entities across the country.

The courts sent these rules back to the FCC for a rewrite. Now, as the FCC embarks upon writing new rules, the stakes are even higher:

* A handful of media companies dominate what you watch on television. As their influence spreads to other outlets, the diversity of what you see diminishes.

Five media conglomerates — Viacom/CBS, Disney, Time Warner, News Corp. and NBC/GE — control the big four networks, 80 percent of the primetime television market share, most cable channels, as well as vast holdings in radio, publishing, movie studios, music, Internet and other sectors. (To learn more, visit StopBigMedia.com's ownership charts)

Minority ownership — a crucial source of diverse and varied viewpoints -- has declined significantly over the past decade. Today, only 3.3% of television stations are minority-owned.

* Media conglomerates now stand to make incredible new profits from the public airwaves with no accountability to the public interest.

Over the next few years, television conglomerates will begin broadcasting digitally. This means that in the space it used to take to broadcast the local affiliate of ABC, NBC or CBS, these corporations will now be able to fit six or more stations — ABC-1, ABC-2, and so on. This opens up countless new revenue streams, and indeed, plans are already in the works to have infomercial-driven new channels pump up corporate profits.

The total worth of the publicly owned airwaves that U.S. broadcasters utilize has been valued at $367 billion -- more than the GDP of many nations — but the public has never been paid a dime in return. Now, these conglomerates claim they can't afford to be accountable to the public interest.

* Media consolidation has stifled independent voices and threatened public access to information.

Consolidation is killing local media choices. Since 1975, two-thirds of newspaper owners have disappeared, and one-third of television owners have vanished. There are less than 300 unique owners of the nation's 1,500 daily newspapers, and more than half of all U.S. markets are dominated by one paper.

Moreover, the number of radio station owners has plummeted by 35 percent since 1996, when ownership rules were gutted. That year, the largest radio owners controlled fewer than 65 stations; today, radio giant Clear Channel alone owns over 1,100.

* If the current ownership rules are eliminated, local communites will be turned into "company towns," where one media conglomerate dominates the public discourse.

Big Media wants the FCC to lift the restrictions on newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership and allow one company to own two or more television stations in a single market. If the rules are changed, the largest conglomerates will immediately begin swapping newspaper and television properties. Then the radio giants like Clear Channel will begin selling off their already consolidated radio holdings for billions to the other dominant companies, creating local and regional media fiefdoms.

If FCC Chairman Kevin Martin tries to push through changes similar to those rejected in 2003, one company could potentially own the major daily newspaper, eight radio stations and three television stations in the same town. Once the digital television transition is completed in 2009 – allowing stations to broadcast multiple signals – one company could control 12 or even 18 television channels in a single city.

The first annual U.U. In the Pines Music fest is in Brooksville, FL, April 27 28 29. There will ten or more bands who will be playing throughout the weekend in a large music hall. The venue is a beautiful retreat surrounded by central Florida's wilderness. At the venue there is a large fire pit, a swimming pool, nature trails that wind around the back of the property, and plenty of room for camping, partying, and just having fun. It will be a weekend to remember (or will you?) with live music, great times, and good people.

Tix are $40 for the weekend or $20 for a day pass. Contact me for tix. This money is going to help pay for the venue and help the bands with the cost of traveling there. Space is limited, get your tix early!!!

The Low Frequency Shaman are set to play Friday the 27th at 8, come on out and check it out!!!

Poi in the Park/BBQ - Saturday March 3rd - Clearwater, FL

Ok, im glad there is interest in practicing the wonderful art of Poi and all of the spinning arts! I would like the inaugural(1st) Poi in the Park to be at our place in Clearwater this Saturday or Sunday around noon so we can get a feeling of who all is going to show up. We have a good amount of room and a park not too far if we exceed our space. We will probably do an every other weekend thing here in Clearwater and then change it up on off weekends to be in Tampa, or Orlando or wherever if there is enough interest. We will see. I want to find a good park with bathrooms in Clearwater and Tampa, that has ample room and not a disc golf course on it so we can stay out of others way and vice versa. So please respond, the tentative date is Saturday, March 3rd.
We do have some extra practice poi, staffs, flags and a couple of fans, Mel has an extra hoop or 2 as well. We can teach you how to make practice poi - tennis balls and long socks or string and tennis balls! Or i may bring some practice poi for sale if i can get them, let me know if you are interested. I make practice staffs so let me know if you are interested and we can go from there. Email me if you have any questions, tampamayhem@yahoo.com.
This is also a springboard. This is my first step and this could be your motivation to find people near you that want to spin and get them together. Start your own group! This is one of the ways to build a community. Its all how much you want to put into it. Ok, enough of the motivational speech, lets get this thing going!
Please contact me for address and contact numbers.
The time: 12 noonish
If you want, we can make it a bbq as well. We have a propane grill.
Let me know what you think and see you soon!

Poi in the Park - Tampa/Clearwater

I would like to find out how much interest there would be to have a “Poi in the Park” non-fire practice session during the day so we can really see each other and what we are doing and hopefully learn a bit more from each other. It would not only be poi practice, but anything people would want to learn - staff, fans, flags or any other implement of destruction and how to move/dance with it. It would probably be better to have it on the weekend, Saturday or Sunday, so more people will be able to make it. I am looking for feedback to find out if this is the best time or possibly have a couple of different practice events, one during the week and one on the weekend so more people can attend. I want to try and start one in Clearwater, and maybe another in Tampa.
This is just a feeling out process. I don’t want to clutter this list with more chatter than necessary so please reply to me off list and if there is enough interest, I may make a group, either yahoo, myspace or tribe. So let me know what you think so we can get the ball rolling, or the poi spinning!!
Hope to hear from you soon!

Fun restaurants and clubs in Clearwater Beach, Florida

Hi, I'm planning a bridesmaids dinner and Girls Night Out for a good friend of mine. A bunch of us plan on celebrating my friend and her upcoming wedding (and final days of being single) in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a fun restaurant and club to take her to in around the Clearwater Beach area?

Corruption at The Leon County School Board

My husband has been suspended without pay as an ESE teacher from the Leon County School Board for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He has been teaching school for the last 14 years with ALL satisfactory evalutions until 2 years age when his school got a new principal.
One day he sent a child to the office who was a personal friend of the principals, the next day she came to his classroom and instructed him to NEVER do that again, that same day, the student threw a book and busted open the head of another student, he called for a resource officer, the principal went directly to my husband and wrote him up for insubordanation?, he fought against it through the union and won, at which point she promised him that she would personally see to it that he would never teach again, the last 2 years of our lives have been a living hell, she has falsified documents, she has manipulated her assistant principal and others to out and out lie for her and it appears to have worked. The County brought in an arbitrator who ruled against my husband, we have just recently found out the arbitrator attended University here and is a personal friend of the attorney for the school board who hand picked the arbitrator himself.

My husband has been nominated and received the Hometown Hero award from CNN for his work with mentally challenged adults and youth. He has been the scoutmaster of troop 33 scouts with disabilities for the last 19 years, just recently he received the runner up award for the volunteer of the year by the Tallahassee Democrat.

We have literally hundreds of letters from other teachers and professional that know Andy personally and cannot believe what is happening to him. He has an attorney, but it is very hard to prove that he has been discriminated against without positive proof other than he said, she said.

I have so much more to say, but feel like I have to stop now, because I get so upset and outraged at what is being allowed to happen to my family

Seeking Florida DJ Gig or exchange from Southern California (Jan 6th-10th)

Seeking Florida DJ Gig or exchange from Southern California (Jan 6th-10th)

Top Notch DJ from San Diego will be visiting Florida between the dates of January 6th - 10th, 2007. DJ Jack Tripper will be looking for a place to bring his music and a crowd to share his vibe. Flexible to the venue & location, pay rate can be negotiable. Will be staying in the Tampa area, however travelling to another major city in Florida is an option. Any opportunities are sincerely appreciated, and it could lead to another great opportunity in return. Burner friendly as well, so if you are part of the Burning Man community thats a big plus!

We can offer the potential of doing a gig exchange through this if you are ever in the San Diego/Southern California region. We throw a lot of parties and do promotions/DJ Bookings, so we can most likely help one another out through this by sharing cross-exposure. Our 'Turntable-Evangelism' events have a solid reputation and growing following for the caliber of talent we work with and quality of our productions. We’ve recently had the Autobots from the UK and the Destroyerz from British Columbia both grace our decks (both are Top Notch Breakbeat acts!). The sky is the limit for 2007 and we strive to give opportunities where they are lacking however we are able to assist.

Jack Tripper is an active name in the Southern California circuit, 11 years seasoned experience for a wide variety of DJ’ing notches under his belt. Strong technical presence coupled with superior crowd control abilities make him a DJ in high demand. Jack plays a wide range of music specializing in Peak hour Underground/Commercial Dance Club music from Breakbeats, Progressive, Tech-House, Elektrohouse, Vocal Trance, Hi NRG Dance, Funky & Deep House, Minimal Glitch Hop, PsyTrance, Drum & Bass, 60’s/70’s/80’s Club Remixes, and Mashups. As well as Trip Hop, Acid Jazz, Downtempo, and other music suited for Lounges, Chillrooms, or intimate afterhours affairs. With a growing repertoire of original remixes and exclusive unreleased music, he’s an established name in his region and growing contender in the national/international DJ circuits.

Please visit the websites for more detailed information about what we do. Jack Tripper’s homesite includes 7 demo mixes of various styles, galleries of past events, DJ resume of past events w/fliers and lineups, bio, and other info.

Hi there!

On November 15 I'm moving to Deland, FL. I've never been to Florida except on vacation, so there's a lot to learn/do 'til then.

I work from home and need a secure cable internet connection to do so (no DSL!!!). I performed a search and found about 5 in my area, but was hoping I could get some feedback from all of you.

Who do you use for internet connection? Monthly cost? Anyone have a internet/cable TV package? Who would you never use in a million bazillions years? Any horror stories for ISPs to avoid?

Thanks!!!

You have to check out the www.paralounge.net website. This is a great event! Low cost, high quality. BIG drum circle! Over 400 attended in April and we expect more this November. It located in north Florida. Spirit of the Suwannee Music park. The website has complete details and lots of great pics. There is also a Paralounge tribe here at this tribe forum. Check it out. We started a great photo archive of our past events.
Safe journeys,

How To Drive Like A Floridian.

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real Florida driver never
uses them.

2. Under no circumstance should you leave a safe distance between you and
the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else,
putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you
have of getting hit.

4. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it
and it will result in you being rear-ended.

5. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork,
especially someone from Florida or Georgia. With no- fault insurance the
other guy doesn't have anything to lose.

6. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your
ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal
pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs.

7. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way
to prepare for people entering the highway.

8. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as a suggestion and are
apparently not enforceable in any County during rush hour.

9. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or
move over doesn't mean that a Florida driver flashing his high beams behind
you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

10. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even
someone changing a tire. This is seen as a sign of respect for the victim.

11. Learn to swerve abruptly. Florida is the home of high-speed slalom
driving.

12. It is traditional in Florida to honk your horn at cars that don't move
the instant the light turns green.

13. Remember that the goal of every Florida driver is to get there first by
whatever means necessary.

14. In Florida, 'flipping someone the bird' is considered a polite salute.

This gesture should always be returned.

THANK YOU & HAVE A SAFE JOURNEY

I think the people of Florida should form a "concerned voters group" and re-gain
some of their rights concerning repairs to their homes. It should not require a contractor to make repairs that do not affect safety, health, or structural soundness. It may require a class action lawsuit to regain these rights but they should be assured you.
Either that or change the constitution of our country to read...."of the people, by the politicians, for the contractors."

I took a video with my cell and posted it, so y'all might wanna check it out....and remember that this is less than a mile off of those lovely southeast Florida beaches!!

Looking for radical fun movement in South Florida

I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale area, and couldn't wait to get out at the time. Since then I've travelled all over the place, and currently living in Northwest. Looks like I'm going back for 2 months to take care of my Dad after a knee replacement(ouch). Looking for some fun radical types to show me around or just give me ideas on places to check out. I'm completely open and game for just about anything.

Like:
music(hardcore to DnB), activism, direct action, food not bombs, anarchist love, community building, learning new things, gardening, girls that kick ass, and adventure.

Getting in at end of June going to be taking care of Dad, but should have spare time and the 2nd month is adventure time. Then back to Portland, next to Burning Man...and continuing to live life like something depends on it.

Not into me me me types, greed, TV, going to the mall, or caring what mainstream society thinks because the old system is not working. So it does not exist to me, only what we can co-create from this moment forward.

Peace,
Brian

Hi,
I was wondering if you would like to visit our place here on Biscayne Bay (Haulover yacht basin) in Bal Harbour.

We have a night club large enough for 3000 people and it is sectioned into rooms. So even a party of 300 is good to go in one room. We have three different rooms that can be divided up with differeing sounds and DJ's.

Have many night open. The weekends are usually diffuicult to open for a new promoter but maybe we can do something.

For the newbies, this is the time to make sure your car gas tank is topped up, your water jugs filled, and that you have fresh batteries in your flashlight. While this may be a relatively minor storm, it's always good to be ready.

I need a womans opinion on a situtation ... help!

My fiance died in a horrible car accident 3 months ago. She used to go to school at Penn State, so I only saw her once every other month. This was the month I was scheduled to go and see her and when the plane ticket came in the mail it finally hit me that she was no longer here. I am having a hard time with dealing with this whole situtation since my mother died 2 months before shannon did. Some people are telling to take some time off and deal with it and some are telling me to jmp right back on the dating scene because it might be one of those situations where people shut themselves off from anything that will put their heart in that situation again. For example: My aunt has not driven a car in some 10 odd years because she hit a kid on a bike and sent him into a coma for 3 weeks.

ladies .... help!?

Greets from rural Leon County. In my community everything is waking up. There's a new red shoulder hawk that's been hunting in the 'hood. Today, when driving back from the dump, she was perched on the telescope mount up at the community center and pretty much ignored me when I stopped about 10 feet away to watch her. The deer have been hanging down at the edge of the swamp. Joe reports seeing a bobcat the past friday night, and Robbie swears that he saw a bear run across the dirt road in front of his house Saturday morning.

Best places to try to move to alone in Florida?

I'm Cat and I almost got to hook up with the Florida burners this summer for Transformus but had some family stuff come up. A long and arduous journey has landed me in Ohio and I don't think I can take the place much more, not even having anything to do with the election.

But at least I am on this side of the country now. My goals is to move somewhere warmer near the ocean that won't kill me trying to keep up with the high costs it takes to live in L.A. and other parts of California. I know most people just go and do what they want, but I have been in and out of effects from a car wreck and I have to be sort of careful about what I do to myself.

So in short, and I know this is probably a really strange question, but what place in Florida would you feel comfortable moving to (or have had the experience of moving to) by yourself, where you could find some job or another in a big enough city, while you look for something better, where you could live not too far from the ocean and within reach of freaks that are not hard to get to know and to play with?

I am a VJ as well and I look forward to finding some good underground parties to participate in or clubs to play in. I also would like to start surfing again and hope not to trash myself more.

What areas might be worth a visit?

Thanks so much,
Cat

Your Opinions about Dunedin

My partner and I want to move away from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) in order to be closer to both of our relatives on the east coast (among a long list of other reasons).

After doing quite a bit of reserch and especially after talking to other Seattle transplants, we have become interested in the town of Dunedin as a possible place to live.

I was hoping to get some feedback on Dunedin from those of you in this tribe.

Got an opinion about Dunedin? Please share.

Thanks,
Florida Springs

Many years ago I went on a spring hopping trip and visited a small spring in the north or central part of the state. This spring had a shallow sandy river flowing from it. In the river there were several sand boils that you would sink in if you were walking down the river.
Can anybody name this place and tell me where to find it again?
Thanks

I'll be moving to Orlando soon (less than a week!) and I just wanted to ask around in regards to: a) Are there any especially cool neighborhoods that I should check out (that would cost around $500-$600 a month)? And b) Are there any especially bad neighborhoods that I should avoid?

Also, if there are any cool people in the area, maybe we could meet up and you could show me around?

Info on Lake Placid

Howdy Tribers!

I'm a wild west gal (Nevada and California), but my husband and I recently recieved a hard to pass up job offer in Lake Placid. I've gathered a lot of conflicting reviews on the area: it's a backwoods dive, it's an upscale resort community, its a KKK hotbed, etc. Please set the record straight. What do you think about Lake Placid and/or Highlands County? If you have anything to add about aviation in Florida, that's our field of expertese.

automatic service charge

So I'm in the SF restaurants tribe, and I'm just curious why around Ocean Drive, Miami they charge 18% for service charge at all of the restaurants on that strip. I can understand if it's for 6+ more people but for 2 people?!

Any experience something like this in another area of Florida?

Can anyone tell me?

Thanks! :)

Hi All~

Just moved to Ft. Lauderdale from San Francisco. Believe it or not (I can hardly!) - I am loving it here. I love the weather, the warmth, the ocean, the sunshine, the people I"m meeting in the holistic community.

I just got a job with a local magazine, and since we're small (but awesome) I wanted to pass along the link. I'm a writer for the magazine - it's a 'positive media' magazine that focuses on health, wellness, spirituality, holistic living, consciousness, healing, etc. Full-color and glossy....real nice.

http://www.beingmagazine.com

Feel free to pass me info on stuff to do in the area. : )

Thanks!
Tena
