Well, where do I begin. I am originally from Los Angeles and have recently moved to beauitufl Sarasota. I absolutely love it and am enjoying the process of getting to know where I am. I am curious as to where and when events are held. I am not quite the "burner" yet but I do have many friends involved in it all, and would like to be a part of it. i think it's a beautiful culture and the people are so wonderful. I am 22 and love music. It's what drives me and keeps me cool. I would love if people would share their ideas for fun and interesting places to go, music festivals are always a plus, and any type of artsy thing going on. I love to go out and meet people so anything that involves these things I am down for. I am open to new experiences and people, so please share with me. : )

Re: New to Florida
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 8:24 PMAnna - welcome to the state. I hope that you got your visa stamped at the welcome station and that you were issued your mosquito swatter and reptile identification guide. You've landed in a beautiful part of Florida. There is a lot of nice outlander culture in Sarasota. A lot of folks with money and liberal values seem to end up there. You're really close to the Fackahachee Strand (I probably spelled it wrong); the home of the ghost orchid. Corkscrew swamp is not that far away, and if you really want to understand where you are, there is the Wilderness Waterway. It's a 10? day canoe trip from the end of the road on the west coast to the visitor center in Everglades National Park.
If you're into music and have a yearning to see more of the state, see my post from this evening re: the Florida Folk Festival.
Anyhow, welcome. It's a fragile state. Please treat her gently.

Re: New to Florida
Sat, December 27, 2008 - 9:41 PMHey all! Add me to the mix. I just moved here from 'norCal', but lived in SoCal for many years before that. I've been here (in Tampa) since August, but still feel very new to the area, and like CA is "home." We should all meet sometime! :-)
Speaking of which, I do have to say that I'm quite impressed with the music scene here, at least! The weather was a bit rainy for being "the sunshine state" when I first arrived. But - its improved... :-)

Re: New to Florida
Fri, January 30, 2009 - 7:56 AMHiya!
Mayhem here! You are a burner inside just waiting to get out! Come join us on Clearwater Beach for Fire on Saturday nights! There are Pirate Fests and all sorts of things going on. There is an event coming up in April called PreHeat. www.floridapreheat.com. Tix are on sale already and there are no sales at the gate. You will meet people from all over the area, some in Sarasota! Come join us sometime and we can get to know you and you can get to know us! Hope to see you soon!
This is an invite to all people who are new, and old, to Florida and the burner culture.
Take care,
Mayhem

Wed, February 4, 2009 - 6:28 PMHi, Anna. If you're into drumming (or perhaps fusion bellydance), there's a shiny new chapter of PURE forming down there as I type. If you're interested, I'll hook you up with its facilitators-to-be.
